Winter 2023-24 7/8 Grade Division Finals

In yet another division where the #1 and #2 seeds squared off for the title, the number one seed PowerU took on the number two seed World Class Sports 14U for the 7/8 Division championship. Word Class Sports 14U opened things up, scoring within the first 30 seconds then running off the first four points of the game. But other than this scoring outburst, the game had a slow start, as the teams were trying to feel each other out. PowerU didn't score its first basket until nearly four minutes in. The score stood at 4-2, World Class Sports 14U, at the four minute mark, but PowerU used its first basket to kick start its offense, running off eight straight points. But World Class Sports 14U answered at the end of the quarter, making an "and one", and PowerU held an 8-7 lead as the first quarter ended.  PowerU decided it would open the scoring in the second quarter, and then likewise ran off four straight. But World Class Sports 14U responded, and the second quarter saw the teams going back and forth, and both teams essentially doubled their initial quarter outpoint, resulting in a PowerU 17-14 lead at the half. While the first two quarters saw the offenses battle, the third quarter was all about the defenses. Neither team scored in the first four minutes, then a World Class Sports 14U three pointer tied the game up. After six minutes, this remained the only points scored, as World Class Sports 14U shut out PowerU in the quarter, and would add another basket in the final minute to take a 19-17 lead going into the last quarter. Feeding off the adrenaline of its defensive shutout in the third, World Class Sports 14U scored the first points in the fourth quarter five seconds in, and ran off four straight, a pattern throughout the game. But PowerU was not the top seed for nothing, and their offense woke up to the tune of seven straight points to take a 24-23 lead at the four minute mark, while their defense clamped down and didn't give up another point. PowerU then went into clock-killing mode, and between its defense and a few more free throws, they held on for a 27-23 win. Great job PowerU for bringing home the trophy in the Little Legends Winter 7/8 Division!
